Permian Basin rig count remains double-digit growth

In 2016 Aug. 12, the Permian basin of West Texas is active on the rig count. Added 12 rigs over the past week, make a total of 189 active drilling in WT shale basin, the Baker Hughes rig count shows – even the crude oil was $ 43 per barrel during that period. However, the Eagle Ford decreased one rig. Baker Hughes reported a total of 230 rigs in Texas and 481 in United States.

Pioneer Natural Resources (NYSE: PXD) with at least 42 drilling permits issued for new wells is the leader of the current drilling boom in Permian Basin. Other key operators include Anadarko Petroleum Corp, Apache Corp, Chevron Corp, Concho Resources Inc, Encana Corp, Energen Corp. and XTO Energy.

Drilling permit filings reveal that the large partner in the Permian Basin is the Wolfcamp stratum, which is very thick and rich with hydrocarbons. Additionally, the Wolfcamp is amount to seven Eagle Fords stacked on top of each other.

Presently, Houston-based Baker Hughes Inc. (NYSE: BHI) releases rig count data. The reports shown are considered an important barometer of drilling activity which provides business for many subcontractors out in the oilfield around the world. What’s more, according to a study from the University of Houston, each drilling rig for oil & gas represents 224 jobs on and off the drilling pad.
